I reviewed 3 React Native apps (no AI slop)

Hey Reader - Simon here 👋

Everyone is talking about AI-built apps right now.

And honestly… most of them correctly get the AI Slop seal.

So this week I wanted to check out some of YOUR results.

Look at real apps people are building - and give some honest feedback.

🎥 I tried 3 of YOUR React Native apps! (Honest Review)

This week I reviewed three React Native apps built by developers from the community.

Some of them use AI, or used AI to create the app.

But more importantly, they actually try to build something useful and interesting.

In the video you’ll see:

  • what these apps do well
  • where they could improve
  • and what makes them stand out from typical “AI apps”

💭 A few thoughts this week

After looking at these apps, one thing stood out:

AI doesn’t make your app interesting.

It might help you build faster.

But what actually matters is:

  • the idea
  • the execution
  • the attention to detail

The apps that stood out weren’t the ones using the most AI.

They were the ones that felt intentional.

That’s still the difference.

🛠 What I’m building

This week I’m mostly in content mode again:

  • recording new videos & shorts
  • planning new projects
  • thinking about future formats like this one

On the game side:

  • Released a major Tiny Harvest version
  • Fixing some small player reported bugs

Right now the biggest challenge is still getting new users, but for the moment I want to make the game more complete first.

That’s it for this week.

I actually really enjoyed reviewing real apps - might do more of this.

If you’ve built something, feel free to share it with me.

See you next week,
Simon

Hey Reader - Simon here 👋 It’s been a while. For the first time in a long time, I basically took a month off from YouTube and this newsletter. Summer holidays happened, I spent a lot of time with my family, tinkered on Tiny Harvest whenever I felt like it… …and honestly, it was pretty nice. But school is starting again, I’m slowly getting back into work, and there’s A LOT I want to build and share over the next months. Starting with something that has changed quite a bit for Tiny Harvest. 🎥 I...

Hey Reader - Simon here 👋 in the past, I probably spent more time tweaking my development setup than I’d like to admit. Every now and then I’ll discover a new tool and think: “How did I build apps without this?” This week I wanted to share the tools that have genuinely become part of my daily workflow - not because they’re shiny, but because they actually save me time. 🎥 React Native Tools That Actually Save Time There are a lot of dev tools out there. Some are fun to try. Some disappear after...

Hey Reader - Simon here 👋 After a week on (hot!) Mallorca, I’m finally back at my desk with fresh motivation. One thing I always enjoy after taking a short break is looking at other people’s work. You notice small details again. The things that feel polished. The things that don’t. And that’s exactly what this week’s video is about. 🎥 I reviewed 3 Apps that were made with Ai Building apps has never been easier. Building a good app is still surprisingly hard. In this episode I reviewed three...
