πŸš€ Galactic News: React Native 0.80, Glass UI, Flutter is Doomed & Games with RN

Hey Reader,

Apple just dropped a new UI paradigm called Liquid Glass β€” and React Native is already ready.

Because React Native uses real native views, we can take advantage of new system features like this right away. Meanwhile, frameworks like Flutter (which re-render their own UIs) will likely struggle to keep up.

This is exactly why I believe so strongly in React Native β€” and why I built Galaxies.dev to help web and app developers like you go from Zero to Hero with native mobile apps.

🌌 What’s new in RN this week?

  • React Native 0.80 is here, freezing the legacy architecture
  • The new stable JS API is on the horizon
  • The ecosystem continues to evolve fast β€” and you’re right in the middle of it

πŸ“Ί Over the next few weeks, I’ll be slowing down a bit (vacation time!) and switching to a bi-weekly video schedule. But I’ve got some exciting content lined up for later this year β€” especially for those of you on the Zero to Hero journey πŸ’ͺ

Until then - keep building, keep shipping.
Simon ✌️

  1. Building NeonCity: A fast-paced mobile game made with React Native, Reanimated, and Expo (Article)
I reviewed NeonCity before, now Daehyeon Mun shares some internals of how to build a game with React Native!
  2. React 19.1, JS API Changes, Freezing Legacy Arch (Release)
React Native 0.80 includes some stability impovements, support for latest React and moves towards a stable JS API.
  3. Glass UI with Expo just works (Tweet)
Just hours after Apple revealed their new Glass UI, Evan already had a demo of using it with React Native - because RN is native!
  4. Good luck Flutter (Tweet)
Flutters way of rendering every pixel on screen will now limit devs to use the new UI. And it looks like Google has no plans to support it anytime soon.

Hey Reader, Are React Server Components still a mystery to you? That ends today - I’ll show you how to build and deploy your first RSC in a React Native app. Why does this matter? RSCs let you handle sensitive operations securely, simplify data fetching, and make your app feel faster - all while writing less code. And yes, they work with React Native now! 🎧 In this week’s podcast, I also broke down what’s new in React Native 0.80 - from frozen legacy architecture to a more stable future. And...

Hey Reader, Can all apps be built with React Native? Five years ago, you might have laughed at this question. Today? It's not just possible - it's happening What's New in React Native Land The recent AppJS conference proved once again that React Native has one of the strongest ecosystems out there. I've distilled the entire 2-day event into a short recap video just for you. Main topic? The legacy Architecture codebase will be frozen 😱 But that's not all. We're on the verge of exciting...
